Gurnee Park District

Outdoor Aquatic Facility

Cost of Construction :$5,548,104

Size: 1,500 Bather Capacity

Status:Completed May 2002

Challenge/Goal:  This project was started in January of 2001 and needed to be completed by the 2002 swim season.  The Park District also wanted to include as much community input as possible into the design.

Solution:  Planning began with SRBL and the Park District touring snow filled aquatic centers in January for ideas.  Many meetings with a Citizens Advisory Committee represented by users of all ages resulted in a truly community-oriented design.  The aquatic center features three slides, a waterfall, and a children’s interactive play area.  Winner: Illinois Parks & Recreation Association Outstanding Aquatic Facility Award Division III.
