Kankakee Valley Park District
Splash Valley Aquatic Park
Cost of Construction: $5,794,537
Size: 1,500 Bather Capacity
Status: Completed June 2004
Challenge/Goal: The Park District wanted its community involved in the design of its aquatic center and needed a team to lead it through the process. The funding came late in the spring, so the design process was acclerated for the pool to be opened the following season.
Solution: SRBL worked with a citizen advisory committee to design a family-centered facility. It includes two zero-depth pool areas - one for toddlers one for older children and adults, spray features and tot slides, a lap pool, lazy river, three water slides, and a sand play area. The construction documents were completed in half of the usual time-frame.
