Mount Prospect Fire Station #14

Cost of Construction: $7,115,000

Size: 23,196 SF
Status: Completed April 2010
Challenge/Goal: After enduring a few weather-related emergencies, the Village wanted its new fire station to be flood resistant and hardened from lateral force winds.  The Village was also interested in sustainable features and low maintenance materials.
Solution: SRBL’s design solution integrates tough beautiful natural materials. With triple pane glazing and reinforced masonry walls, the building is designed to withstand up to 160 mph winds. Four-fold bay doors provide improved response time and less heat loss. The main entrance features a southern facing glass wall to maximize natural daylight. The building received LEED Gold Certification.
