South Fire Station

Size: 7,100 Square Feet

Status: Completed August, 2011

Challenge/Goal: To improve response time and address the growing residential areas, the Department hired SRBL  to design a new South Fire Station. Goals for this project included designing a cost-effective, functional station that fits within the context of the community.

Solution: The station has two bays, parking on-site, and bunks for up to 6 personnel. Designed with flexibility in mind, the station will serve the Fire Department for years to come. Green building initiatives and high quality landscaping that were budget friendly were provided. The Department’s emphasis on quality is demonstrated in the aesthetics of the design, the functional flexibility, and smart landscaping and interior finishes selections.

Green Initiatives That Aren't Watered Down

The Challenge: How do you design a fire station that places as much emphasis on protecting the environment as it does on its employees and visitors?
The Solution: The green initiatives led the station to be one of the first LEED Gold certified fire stations in Illinois.
