Challenge/Goal: The center of the existing Village Hall/Police Station was demolished and the new Police Station constructed in its place. The Village wanted a building that was inviting to the public but kept officer safety a top priority.

Solution: The new complex includes a 25-yard shooting range, indoor underground parking, bullpen lock-up, Emergency Operations Center, and administration space. We kept “safety first” by creating a separate bond-out area adjacent to the sally port, but removed from the public entry. This facility is on track to receive LEED Gold Certification with over 13,000 SF of green roof, 21% of recycled materials, and plumbing fixtures that reduce water usage by 41%.

The Challenge: How do you take a 40-year-old industrial building 40% larger than required for its new use and tailor it to become a state-of-the-art police headquarters?
The Solution: SRBL designed a solution that involved carving out interior courtyards and pulling back the new exterior walls that resulted in abundant natural light and deep overhangs.
