Glenview

Police Station

Cost of Construction: $19,399,725

Size: 88,824 SF

Status: Completed January 2006

Challenge/Goal: The Village was ready to move the police department from its cramped and outdated space to a first-class facility with high visibility on a site, located on a major artery within the redevelopment of a decommissioned naval base.

Solution: The design featuring brick, limestone and granite topped with a zinc roof creates a classic appearance.  The site was built up to create a presence for the building that makes it an icon for the community in the redevelopment.  The interior features a dedicated community room, a separate training room, a large evidence lab, a garage, a defensive tactics room and a 42’ wide training shooting range.

Leaving It In Better Condition

The Challenge: How do you take a 40-year-old industrial building 40% larger than required for its new use and tailor it to become a state-of-the-art police headquarters?
The Solution: SRBL designed a solution that involved carving out interior courtyards and pulling back the new exterior walls that resulted in abundant natural light and deep overhangs.
