Hoffman Estates
Police Station
Cost of Construction: $21,000,000
Size: 79,000 SF
Status: Completed July 2010
Challenge/Goal: The SRBL team was challenged to design a cost-effective facility with a civic presence that incorporated sustainable building techniques and a highly prominent public portion of the police station that would welcome the community.
Solution: The new station has an expansive green roof to mitigate storm water run-off and keep the building cool during the summer months. A private roof-top patio for the officers’ use is an amenity highlight. A Resource Center adjacent to the Lobby space will serve the community in a variety of ways from blood drives to after-school programs. The naturally lit Lobby has a dynamic graphic wall of the Police Department interacting with citizens and a community kiosk. This project is seeking LEED Gold Certification.
