Westchester Park District
Cost of Construction: $775,000
Size: 7,900 SF
Status: Completed February 2010
Challenge/Goal: The District hoped to increase revenue by creating more of a “wow” factor to broaden the demographics of the people who use this facility.
Solution: SRBL’s design focused on maximizing light and openness. Formerly without exterior windows, the weight room now features large openings that face the daylit fitness room. The playroom walls feature dynamic large scale graphics and multiple windows of varying sizes and heights. The formerly dark and divided foyer was updated to incorporate a cafe-like lounge and waiting area. Bright colors and carefully placed architectural panels infuse energy and movement. The District saw an increase in membership before the facility even reopened.
